Excavation With a Tiny Audience

Our excavator started working here at the Bungalow today.
He wasn't supposed to start until Monday.
Imagine that...
a contractor showing up early.
We are SO excited!
I arrived home from a shopping and lunching date in Salt Lake with Miss Madimo and her
momma to find a giant track hoe tearing up the driveway.
I immediately knew what I had to do.
I hurried to go fetch Cowboy and Cupcake and bring them over to take it all in.

When the operator saw Cowboy and Cupcake watching intently, he stopped the track hoe,
stepped out of the cab and motioned for me to bring Cowboy over.
He was inviting him to sit in the cab and help run the machine for a few minutes.
How cool is that?!
Cowboy flat-out refused.
I reassured him that he'd be safe and encouraged him to give it a try.
He was adamant.
I thanked the operator and waved him on back to his work.
Cowboy then scooched himself backward on the lawn and continued observing
from a bit more distance.
I'm certain he was intimidated by the enormity of the machine in motion, maybe even
a little embarrassed that he'd refused and, perhaps,
thought I might press the issue.
I admit I was tempted to press him a bit, but I restrained.

After a while, Cope suggested we watch from a different perspective,
so we sat under the trees behind the trailer and while we watched we discussed
the difference between track hoes and back hoes.
I so enjoy chatting with this boy.

When the track hoe was turned off and parked and the workers left
for the day Cope could hardly wait to go check it out.

Now here's a cute story...
When we were done taking these pictures, this darling boy said,
"Nonna! I have a great idea. You take a picture of me by the house and I'll make a sad face
because my house is all broken."
And so we did.

Oh, how I love this sweet, funny boy.
